Apple is sending out invitations that it will hold an "education announcement" January 19 at the Guggenheim in NYC. Most rumors point to the unveiling of electronic textbooks, something Steve Jobs had been keen to do from the very beginning, and has reportedly worked on the project to his last days. The event is not expected to have any hardware announcement, but an iTunes University (iTunes U) project is expected to be detailed too, as part of the "education announcement".
