OmniVision has announced a new camera sensor designed to be used in smartphones, tablets, netbooks, ultrabooks. The OV2722 CameraChip is capable of recording native 1080p video, though its still image capabilities are limited to 2 megapixels. OmniVision says the new chip uses its OmniBSI+ pixel architecture that provides improved light sensitivity and image quality while still maintaining a module height of less than 3mm. The 1/6-inch chip has 1.4-micron pixels and promises to offer 10 percent better low light sensitivity than its predecessor. OmniVision says that the OV2722 is currently in volume production, but it did not say when we might see it used in actual devices. »read more
