Sluggish

My mom has been using this phone for the last 5 months, and it has been less than impressive. Soon after she got it, it became very sluggish and the battery already crapped out. I'm not sure if it's the hardware on the phone or the version of windows mobile, but the combination does not seem to work. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
