Do you Need a Data Plan?

I've read on some forums the LG Env3 requires a data plan. Verizon will automatically bill you, and most people don't even realize that's happening. Is this true?

Level 2 It requires a data plan of 9.99 or higher. They tell you that it requires the plan. If you bought the phone before the data plans went in affect you don't have to get the data plan.

Level 1 Yes, if you don't have the phone, the $9.99 or higher data package is required, but, if you bought your phone before January, you don't have to pay for it.

Level 2 that doesn't even make any sense, the phone lags horribly when using data on verizon's network... browsing web pages is really slow.

Level 2 Having data plan on this thing is such a waste. Does it have IM to make it worth it, or the only usage for the data is for mail and slow and inadequate browsing. Not worth IMO.
