The BlackBerry PlayBook looked good at the very begining, but than big issues got discovered and consumers did not catch on. RIM has supposedly sold less than 800,000 PlayBooks in the first half of 2011. It is not clear though how many of them are actually in consumer hands. Digitimes reports that Quanta Computer is supposed to significantly cut back the production lines for the Playbook.
According to the report Quanta Computer set up a special production faciility in Taiwan with 2,000 workers to make sure the Chinese to not clone the Playbook. Quanta is said to cut back the work force by 50% and shipment of Playbooks already dropped to 100,000 units in the third quarter.
