HTC has now added the T-Mobile Sensation 4G and a number of other handsets to its official bootlaoder unlocking program. Available online, the process lets some Android phone owners change the firmware of their handsets without special hacks. Currently supported are various models of the Sensation in different markets and the Evo 3D for Sprint.
There are some provisos, however, as the bootloader unlock isn't guaranteed to maintain the factory warranty. At the same time, the process doesn't remove carrier locks, and any official over-the-air update aren't guaranteed to work.
