Can this compare to the iPad when it's released? I really like this eReader but I just don't know.

Depends on what you want. If it is only eBook reader you need, the Nook is probably the best one out there (isn't it?) and it costs only $260. The iPad is $500+, but it has full color high-res screen, making it a perfect internet/email browser for the bed, and its 10hours of battery make it a good eBook reader.
would love to see a color verison of an ereader so kids can enjoy it also
