According to the Wall Street Journal, Chinese company Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. is planning to release its own operating system through its Alibaba Cloud Computing unit. This follows news from last week that Baidu, the dominant search provider in China, would be developing its own OS as well.
Alibaba's OS is said to be entirely cloud-based, with users accessing applications on a remote server instead of installing them directly to their phones. There weren't many other details provided, but Alibaba intends to launch the OS in the third quarter of this year.
