Flip MinoHD 2Gen Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Flip's excellent UltraHD packed into a sleeker casing. It's a great little camcorder, but doesn't do enough to fully justify the price rise over its lardier sibling.

I’ll repeat the mantra: All pocket camcorders are a study in compromise. But the latest MinoHD handles those compromises better than other pocket cameras I’ve used. Like other cameras, the results of its low-light shooting can be grainy. However, it compensates for the wild color shifts you get from some of these cameras.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

Pure Digital's latest MinoHD is arguably the best-looking pocket camcorder you'll find—but it's also expensive and short on features.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

There are a couple of niggles with the new FlipVideo Flip MinoHD, but the video it captures is now more worthy of display on a large screen, helped by an HDMI port necessary to do so. We’d like a better zoom, but we can’t argue with this camcorder’s design, resolution support or capacity.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Pure Digital Flip MinoHD 8GB is getting it's latest incarnation in the new 8GB edition. The new MinoHD looks almost identical to the previous version but it's much heavier and with a better screen. The screen is the saviour of the MinoHD, it's got half an inch on its 4GB brethren and the screen is a picture of clarity. It's very simple to use and outputs to a decent standard; We were expecting it to be much more of a close run thing, but the Flip camera is simply too expensive in the context of the competition.

So the second outing for the MinoHD is a significant upgrade over the original, even if the core functionality remains the same. Video quality is very slightly better, there’s twice as much storage, it looks more stylish, and the LCD is a big improvement. However, the new model is also currently being sold alongside the old, and the latter can now be found for £50 less. If all you want is something pocket-friendly to capture a few moments, the older model works out much better value.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

Lay the Mino HD side-by-side with every one of its pocket-video-cam competitors, and style-conscious YouTubeographers will pick it up first every time. The new aluminum body undoubtedly makes the Mino HD a great-looking and feeling camcorder, which may redeem Flip in the eyes of Apple’s notoriously design-crazy customers. But while it might win a petty battle with a reworked MP3 player, the Mino HD is losing to its real peers like the Kodak Zi8, which trounces the Mino HD in almost every category except style.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Overall the Flip Mino HD 2nd gen offers better than average daylight record and sensational looks with its compact metal body. We welcome the HDMI on the bottom for the convenience of plugging straight into an HD TV and the increased screen size makes it more pleasurable to use, and video playback looks great.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The ultra-compact MinoHD is a great little HD video camera. Not only is it easy to use, it can be hooked up to any computer thanks to the pop-up USB arm or to any HDTV via the HDMI output on the bottom.

The first Flip camcorder released under the Cisco brand is a winner.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Taking to heart the old saying that if it isn't broke, don't fix it, Flip Video has upgraded its MinoHD pocket camcorder for the 2009 holiday season with a new "premium" model that improves upon the popular product's design but changes little else.
