Apple Questions & Answers
What do you think of Mountain Lion, the next Apple OS X Desktop/Notebook OS?
Yesterday Apple announced the new major release of it's desktop OS - OS X 10.8, a.k.a Mountain Lion. As I couldn't see anything radical design wise, there are a lot of features borrowed from the iOS, that in my opinion will make the user experience better. Some people consider removing Mac from the name is leading to a merge between desktop and mobile os, as now there is no Mac in front od OS X, as it used to be for the previous versions, like Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
Some notable new features in the Mountain Lion (scheduled for public release some time in the summer):
- Messages with FaceTime integration - send and receive across all devices (OS X, iOS)
- Notification Center - popular third party app Growl replaced with iOS style notifications
- Reminders
- Gatekeeper - security layer pointed at possible installing of malware; You'll be able to choose from Anything (install any app), App Store only and App Store and trusted developers.
- Game Center
- Twitter integration
- AirPlay mirroring - view your desktop on the TV wire free (Apple TV needed)
