It's not just American GPS companies and governments that are concerned about the potential GPS interference from LightSquared's proposed 4G LTE network, as officials in Europe have expressed similar worries.
According to Heinz Zourek, head of the European Commission's industry department, research has revealed that LightSquared's base stations have "considerable potential to cause harmful interference" to the Galileo GPS system that is expected to be operational in Europe and the U.S. by 2014 or 2015. The Galileo system uses the same spectrum as current GPS receivers, which is right next to the spectrum the LightSquared wants to appropriate for its network. »read more
