Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2,8/21 Pro Reviews

photozone‘s review Edit

The Zeiss Distagon ZF T* 21mm f/2.8 is a legendary lens, and in this review it certainly shows why. The sharpness is impressive at any aperture and across the whole DX frame. Lateral CAs are very low and as such contributing to the high resolution perception. Vignetting and distortion are also well controlled and not a field-relevant issue for most subjects. Just like the rest of its family the Zeiss lens is build to the highest standards. Some users may complain about the lack of AF but, frankly, this is usually a non-issue for an ultra-wide lens. The focus confirmation is available in the viewfinder and in very critical (close focus) scenes Live-View can give you a helping hand.

The-Digital-Picture‘s review Edit

A 21mm lens is very good for creating dramatic perspectives, but that is not often what you want for portrait photography. If you shoot a portrait at 8.7" (220mm), whatever is closest to the lens is going to appear larger than you (or the subject) want it to. But, shoot full body portraits and people in their environment and the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon T* ZE Lens' results are great. See the girl-on-the-rock sample picture above as an example of an environmental portrait. As in landscape photography, carefully setup portrait images can easily be taken using manual focus. The wave distortion negatively impacts the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon T* ZE Lens' otherwise excellent architectural photography capabilities.

photozone‘s review Edit

The Zeiss Distagon ZF (ZE) T* 21mm f/2.8 is not only a legendary lens - it is also capable of delivering its qualities on today's DSLRs. The sharpness is already impressive at f/2.8 and it does even get slightly better at medium apertures. Lateral CAs are very low and as such contributing to the high resolution perception. Distortions are also well controlled but if you want to correct the remaining artifacts this may not be all that easy due to the secondary mustache style here.
