Problem

Just loaded Kubuntu 12.04 on a friend's computer. Fresh clean, over everything install. Runs Great, except for the GrUB.



Goes as follows:

>Power-on.

>GrUB, comes up. It is completely unreadable, half black half gray screen.

>timer runs out, OS comes up normally.

Problem

Pretty sure the culprit it Ubuntu 11.10... but after reinstalling to 11.10 from 11.4 my printer no longer works...



Error message when try to print a test: There is a missing print filter for printer "Cannon-MP640"



Printer State in Settings:

Idle - File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij"...

I went to check my morning set ups and was instantly prompted to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10. Aside of the time constraints of having to possibly wait hours for it to fully upload, in the online tour it doesn't really look any different than 11.04. So, is there a functionality improvement to consider?

Problem

Just finished a fresh installation of Ubuntu and just after the restart i get Grub Error 5 and the bootloader halts. Now I can`t get in neither of my OSs. The HDD seems to be ok so I can`t seem to find the reason for the error. I tried reinstalling Grub from the livecd but it keeps giving the same error....

For the last few weeks every time I try boot to Ubuntu 11.04 I have been getting the following error:



Could not update .ICEauthority file /home/username/.?ICEauthority



I gather it is a file of importance, but the other users on the system have not been getting the error...

I've heard the reviews/rumors, and I am prone to believe them. Linux is less prone to viruses than a windows based system. But there continue to be skeptics.



So, does any one out there have any valid proof of a Linux attack, or proof of its durability against viruses/malware?
