HDMI out to component in

Posted by DragonForce on May 10, 2011

What's the easiest and cheapest way to do this? Will a cable do the job or do I need a box? I want to connect a phone with HDMI to a projector :)

Level 3 This is very good question. As far as I know there are cable converters for that. However, the problem with converting the signal is the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) security implemented in the HDMI technology, which basically means you can't use that converter for DVDs, Blu-Rays (and all HDCP protected media) on a non-HDCP displays/projectors or if you do you will get blank screen.

So, if that is your case, the answer to your question is to look for HDMI to Component stripper that will remove the HDCP information from the video signal which will allow it to be converted and played on a non-HDCP devices. Hope that helps.

Here is a link to the article explaining that matter in-depth: http://www.home-theater-automation-and-electronics.com/HDMI-To-Component.html

You can also try with an HDMI to VGA converter as most projectors have VGA ports.
