Unredacted docs show hiring collusion between tech giants Apple, Google, and Intel

Last week, heavily redacted documents were released regarding an antitrust lawsuit that the US Department of Justice had brought and settled against Googe, Apple, Adobe, Intel and other companies back in 2010. Even in the heavily redacted documents, evidence was seen that the companies had been engaged in collusion. Essentially, the companies all had informal agreements to not hire or "poach" each others' employees.

Samsung GALAXY Tab with dual-core 2GHz processor rumored for MWC

Samsung GALAXY Tab with dual-core 2GHz processor rumored for MWC

Posted on Jan 30, 2012 by MG1

Update: The Samsung GALAXY Tab 11.6 tested by Android and Me had a dual-core 2GHz processor, not a quad-core processor as we originally reported. We thank our loyal readers for bringing this to our attention
Earlier today we passed along the word that Samsung was weighing its options when it comes to announcing the Samsung Galaxy S III at the MWC in Barcelona next month. While no one knows if the smartphone will be presented at the show, how about Samsung's new high-end tablet? Android and Me is saying that at a closed door media event at CES earlier this month, they had a chance to play with a device that just might be a Samsung GALAXY Tab 11.6 with a dual-core 2GHz processor under the hood...

Galaxy S III is a quad-core-packing,12 megapixel-toting beast set for MWC

Galaxy S III is a quad-core-packing,12 megapixel-toting beast set for MWC

Posted on Jan 25, 2012 by MG3

While we already figured the Samsung Galaxy S III would be announced during Mobile World Congress next month, a tweet from Eldar Murtazin has further confirmed this, along with a few specs of the handset.Everything mentioned seems to be what we’d expect from Samsung for its next flagship device but we hadn’t heard that the handset would be rocking a 12 megapixel camera, even from rumors, until now. Given that HTC and Sony have already announced handsets with 16 and 12 megapixel cameras, it’s looking like the start of a new trend. With ridiculous camera sensors found on mobile phones today, we wish that some manufacturer would squeeze in a Xenon flash at some point.

Google could see its revenue from mobile ads rise to $5.8 billion this year

Google could see its revenue from mobile ads rise to $5.8 billion this year

Posted on Jan 23, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Google

Being an open source system, Google receives zilch from each phone loaded with Android. But that doesn't mean that Google isn't bringing in money from the smartphone and tablet businesses. According to Jim Friedland, an analyst with brokerage firm Cowen, Google is bringing in $7 for each smartphone and tablet sold including Android and iOS devices. The money comes from mobile display and search ads. Considering that the number of mobile devices worldwide is expected to nearly double from 509 million last year to 914 million this year, Google's mobile ad revenues are estimated by Cowen to surge from an estimated $2.5 billion in 2011 to $5.8 billion in 2012.
Interestingly enough, Google's CEO...

Pantech next to sign Android patent deal with Microsoft

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: MicrosoftPantech

Microsoft may have already signed patent licensing agreements with 70 percent of the US Android manufacturers, including some of the biggest names in the market, but that doesn't mean Redmond's about ready to hit the brakes anytime soon. Next up on the block is Pantech, according to a company spokesperson talking with Yonhap News. No specific details have been decided yet, so we'll have to wait for the official word and see what happens.

A Canadian man successfully gained entry into the United States using a scanned image of his passport on his iPad.
Matt Reisch, from Montreal, realised he'd forgotten his ID as he approached the US border while driving to deliver Christmas presents to Vermont.
However, the quick-thinking Canuck realised he had scanned the important pages and sent the image to his iPad in-case he lost the passport while travelling.

Samsung Galaxy S II Ice Cream Sandwich ROM released through Kies

Samsung Galaxy S II Ice Cream Sandwich ROM released through Kies

Posted on Jan 03, 2012 by MG1

Multiple Ice Cream Sandwich beta ROMs for the Galaxy S II have started to trickle out, according to YouMobile. Floodgates, however, are still not widely open, since the new ROM requires Samsung Kies software and can’t be installed over the air. What’s more, we’re not sure every Galaxy S II user can get its Android 4.0 fix — Kies software updates are known to target select markets so you may not see it just yet.

Google Wallet hacks to work on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Google Wallet hacks to work on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 by MG1

Well this didn’t take long. Google Wallet is now unofficially available for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This is truly ironic considering all of the bad turmoil that has been going on for the past few days, which allegedly has Big Red blocking the payment service. Thanks to the hard-working Android community people are able to get their hands on the Wallet service, but only if you’re willing to root your phone and follow a relatively simple guide.
What’s even cooler about this back door way into the Google Wallet app is you’re still able to get your hands on the complimentary $10 Google prepaid card once you sign up. If you’re the tinkering type who really wants to experience the pay and go wit...

MySpace out of UK's 'top 10 social networks' list

MySpace out of UK's 'top 10 social networks' list

Posted on Dec 15, 2011 by MG1

The arrival of Justin Timberlake hasn't stopped the downward spiral of MySpace, with Experian Hitwise's latest figures revealing that the social network has fallen out of the top 10 social networks in the UK.
Now, the 10 sites that are classified as social networks do have to be taken with a pinch of salt – some we wouldn't actually class as being a true social network – but the mere fact that the likes of Moneysavingexperts and Moshi Monsters are now bigger stats-wise than what was once the essentially hangout for web-savvy networkers.
"MySpace traffic has been on the decline for at least three years now but this is the first time the social network has fallen out of the Experian Hitwise to...

Kaspersky: Massive botnet is 'practically indestructible'

Kaspersky: Massive botnet is 'practically indestructible'

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by Immortal

Kaspersky security researchers have sounded the alarm over a new botnet that is said to be virtually "indestructible." Known as TDL-4 -- the fourth generation of 2008's TDL botnet/malware -- the latest strain has reportedly infected more than 4.5 million Windows machines in the first three months of 2011 -- and that's not slowing down.
Like previous versions of TDL, the operators of TDL-4 are paying affiliates between $20 and $200 for every 1,000 systems they infect, depending on the location of the victim. Affiliates can accomplish this through any means desired, but they generally prefer to infiltrate PCs via porn, bootleg sites, as well as video and file storage services.
Having developed...

Amazon Kindle Fire hack allows installing Google apps, Nook Tablet can get the Amazon Appstore

Amazon Kindle Fire hack allows installing Google apps, Nook Tablet can get the Amazon Appstore

Posted on Nov 18, 2011 by MG1

The Amazon Kindle Fire shocked us with its $199 price tag – after all, that's more than twice cheaper than the iPad, but with the lower price you'd have to compromise. The Kindle Fire features a dual-core processor, but still can't match in the spec race, but what could be more troubling for some – it doesn't have core apps like the Android Market with its hundreds of thousands of apps, and Google's suite of applications including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Talk and Books among others.
But after all, the Kindle Fire does run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, albeit a heavily skinned version, so it should be able of running those applications. And it does – you'll just need to spend some time rooting th...

Barnes & Noble launches Nook Tablet, lights a fire under Amazon

Barnes & Noble launches Nook Tablet, lights a fire under Amazon

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

Yep, we had a feeling this one was coming. As expected, bookstore mega-chain Barnes & Noble has launched its answer to Amazon's Kindle Fire (and to a lesser extent, Kobo's multimedia Vox slate) -- also as expected, the thing looks an awful lot like its predecessor, the recently discounted Nook Color, right down to the metal bar on the bottom corner. Granted, B&N did already make the leap into the tablet space, when the Nook Color was upgraded earlier this year -- but the Nook Tablet brings more than just a new name, of course.

GameStop testing sales of Android tablets in 200 stores

GameStop testing sales of Android tablets in 200 stores

Posted on Oct 31, 2011 by MG1

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that during this holiday season, retailer GameStop will put specialized Android tablets in 200 stores to see how well they sell. The tablets, made by Asus, Acer and Samsung, will each come with seven free games including EA's "Dead Space", and will be offered at the same price you would see at other stores. Although the tablets will support GameStop's new controller out of the box, it must be purchased separately at the store.
Last month, we reported that GameStop was planning on offering its own Android tablets to sell in its stores. Besides offering pre-installed games, console quality content would be streamed from the cloud using the controller. The i...

Security Firms Warn of 'Stuxnet-Like' Virus

Security Firms Warn of 'Stuxnet-Like' Virus

Posted on Oct 19, 2011 by MG1

Security researchers on Tuesday issued a warning about a virus, dubbed Duqu, that's similar in nature to the Stuxnet worm that targeted Iranian critical infrastructure last year.
International researchers alerted Symantec about Duqu last week and Symantec found that "parts of Duqu are nearly identical to Stuxnet, but with a completely different purpose"—information gathering rather than system sabotage.
"Duqu's purpose is to gather intelligence data and assets from entities, such as industrial control system manufacturers," Symantec said in a blog post. "The attackers are looking for information such as design documents that could help them mount a future attack on an industrial control faci...

Motorola Atrix 2 just a few clicks away from your purchase at AT&T for $100

Posted on Oct 17, 2011 by MG1

The latest high-end Android phone on AT&T's lineup definitely looks like a hundred bucks, and fortunately it won't cost you a penny more -- on the contrary, it'll be a penny less before taxes and fees get involved in the ruckus. We're talking about the Motorola Atrix 2, announced and shown off last week at CTIA Enterprise & Applications. If you're anxious to get a new phone and one of them fancy iDevices aren't doing it for you, this 4.3-inch qHD handset with a dual-core 1GHz CPU, 21Mbps HSPA+, an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video capture and front-facing cam, Android 2.3 and a full gigabyte of RAM will be a stunning option at a midrange price. Envisioning a beautiful future together with the A...
