Lenovo outs IdeaCentre B340 and B540 all-in-ones, H520s and IdeaCentre K430 towers

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG1

Ultrabooks might be the belle of the ball at this year's CES, but that doesn't mean you won't see a few desktops thrown in for variety's sake. Lenovo just unveiled a quartet of stationary machines, including two towers and a pair of touchscreen all-in-ones. Beginning with those touchscreens, the IdeaCentre B340 and B540 are essentially the same system, except the former has a 21.5-inch screen and the latter expands to 23. Both have 1080p displays and can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, an optional Blu-ray drive and 3D tech. The only variation in specs, so far as we can tell, is that the 21.5-inch version maxes out with a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 615M card, whereas for the 2...

Lenovo S2 smartphone promises super-security

Lenovo S2 smartphone promises super-security

Lenovo has taken the wraps off of its S2 smartphone, an Android handset that the company reckons is significantly more secure than rival devices thanks to kernel-level encryption. That security protects personal information, helps avoid phishing apps and controls network and SMS traffic to prevent malware racking up your monthly bill; however, unlike the IdeaTab S2 10 tablet and K91 smart TV, the S2 only runs Gingerbread, not Ice Cream Sandwich.

Lenovo's Y-Series Laptops Can Handle All Your Multimedia Demands, and Then Some

Lenovo's Y-series laptops aren't flashy by any means, but the Intel Core i7 Processor, NVIDIA GeForce discrete graphics, JBL premium sound and Blu-ray drive make up for the workman-like exterior.
The Y580, specifically comes in 14 and 16-inch sizes, supports up to 8 gigabytes of RAM, and has a 1 terabyte hard drive. There's also the option to add a TV tuner and Intel's wireless display feature to the laptop. The Y580, along with the 14-inch Y480, will both be available in April starting at $900.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 is the first Windows laptop with Intel's Thunderbolt; Edge E430 and E530 also announced

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG1

Lenovo figured you might just not be content with the new ThinkPad ultrabook or the dual processor / dual operating system ThinkPad Hybrid X1, so how about a smattering of ThinkPad Edge laptops? First up is the ThinkPad Edge S430, which is one of the first Windows laptops we've heard of to have Intel's forthcoming third generation Core processors (or Ivy Bridge) and Intel's Thunderbolt I/O technology. Lenovo's not sharing many other details on the spec front (we expect because Intel hasn't announced these chips quite yet), but it will also be available with Nvidia Optimus graphics and up to 1TB of storage.

Lenovo's 55-inch IdeaTV K91 is the world's first Android Ice Cream Sandwich TV

Lenovo's 55-inch IdeaTV K91 is the world's first Android Ice Cream Sandwich TV

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: TVsLenovo

Back in late November last year, Lenovo's Chinese folks teased a certain IdeaTV or LeTV for launch this year, and now we finally get to see it in its full glory. Dubbed the K91, we're looking at a 55-inch IPS 3D HDTV running Android Ice Cream Sandwich (a first for smart TVs, yet not quite a Google TV), and inside it sits a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060. Dig a little deeper and you'll also find 1GB of RAM, 8GB storage, SD card expansion, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 10M/100M Ethernet, HDMI and USB 2.0 connectivity (which is much needed for an external hard drive to store video content). As you can see in the pictures, the K91 will come with some Lenovo cloud services, including an app store (but t...

Lenovo IdeaTab S2: The first competitor to the ASUS Transformer Prime

Lenovo IdeaTab S2: The first competitor to the ASUS Transformer Prime

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: TabletsLenovo

It may seem hard to believe, but one year ago at CES 2011 ASUS showed off the first generation of a new type of Android tablet that they dubbed the “Transformer”. By itself the Transformer wasn’t anything special, just another Android tablet running Honeycomb, but when it was paired with a keyboard dock it transformed (get it?) into a device that looked like an everyday laptop. The resulting combination, which gave you all the benefits of a tablet such as instant on and amazing battery life, plus the huge productivity gains that a full laptop keyboard offered, turned a lot of heads in the tech community. Last month the second generation, dubbed the “Transformer Prime”, launched and it furthe...

Report: Acer and Lenovo to Launch Windows 8 Slates in 2012

Report: Acer and Lenovo to Launch Windows 8 Slates in 2012

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG3

CES Las Vegas is just around the corner, but, similar to years past, we already know some of the hot items that will be on show in Sin City. Last year, we saw numerous dual-core smartphones and more Android tablets than we care to remember. This year, we're expecting to see Ultrabooks, some quad-core phones and tablets and, hopefully, something Windows 8-related. Considering Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is giving the keynote address, we figure some Windows 8 action isn't completely out of the question, but will he talk about any of the rumored Windows 8 tablets?

Lenovo ThinkPad x130e launch date slips to February

Lenovo ThinkPad x130e launch date slips to February

Posted on Dec 21, 2011 by MG15

Lenovo's education-oriented ThinkPad x130e was supposed to launch yesterday, but now the company's website is saying that we should expect the knock-proof tablet to arrive in February next year. Engadget spoke to a rep from the firm and was told that the delay was due to the laptop's popularity with school districts, which have collectively bought the entire first manufacturing run.

The 11.9-inch laptop is designed for use by K12 students, with a rubber bumper on the outer shell to offer some protection from dings and scrapes, reinforced hinges, ports, and bezel corners, a choice of lower-end processors from Intel and AMD, an 8.5-hour battery, and Lenovo's RapidBoot technology to make sure ...

Lenovo is the latest company to plan a smart TV push, with the Chinese firm announcing it plans to unveil the first “LeTV” – along with a cloud service for shared multimedia – in Q1 2012. The company declined to detail the LeTV technically, the WSJ reports, leaving questions around whether it will be another win for Google TV or instead run a home-grown OS.

Acer, Lenovo looking to release Tegra 3-equipped tablets in early 2012

Filed in: AcerLenovonVIDIA

For now ASUS' Transformer Prime is the lonely king of the quad-core tablet hill, but as we'd heard a few weeks back, it looks like it'll have company soon enough. Insider sources have reported to DigiTimes that you'll be able to snag a nifty Android tablet with a quad-core GPU for between $459 and $599 in 2012. Acer and Lenovo are apparently set to target Apple's iPad tablet as well as ASUS with NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 GPU tablets running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the first quarter of 2012. These sources also stated that since neither Acer nor Lenovo have a direct advantage over Apple or Amazon's tablet devices, they'd only be competing for about 10 to 15 percent of the total PC...

Lenovo's ThinkCentre M77 Desktop is Built for Business

Lenovo's ThinkCentre M77 Desktop is Built for Business

Posted on Nov 01, 2011 by MG1

You won't find any swirling LEDs or one-touch overclocking buttons on Lenovo's new ThinkCentre M77 desktop. Instead, this machine is all business, "crafted for professionals" looking for a "powerful, secure, energy efficient yet easy to use computer to tackle everyday office tasks," Lenovo says. Sounds like a snoozer until you realize it's (optionally) powered by an AMD FX Series processor and up to 16GB of DDR3 memory.
"Previously, this level of processing performance has only been available in premium PCs," said Tom Shell, vice president and general manager, Commercial Desktop Business Unit, Lenovo. "The ThinkCentre M77 desktop with the new AMD FX Series processors provide mainstream users...

Lenovo C325 all-in-one packs AMD Fusion, touch for $699

Lenovo C325 all-in-one packs AMD Fusion, touch for $699

Posted on Oct 25, 2011 by MG1

Lenovo hoped to bring a rare level of features to lower cost all-in-one desktops through the C325. The 20-inch PC manages to fit an optional touchscreen and native apps but keeps the price down by using AMD's 1.65GHz E-450 processor. The chip gives it graphics fast enough for modern 3D and 1080p video, including over HDMI.
The easel-shaped design still finds room for some extras, such as the options of a TV tuner or USB 3.0. An uncommon always-ready speaker system lets users plug in an outside audio source like an iPod and play it without having to turn the computer on.
Lenovo hasn't outlined what users get in the standard version other than the E-450 and a DVD burner, but prices will start ...
