Google released a new version of its Search app for the iPhone today that brings over the redesigned interface first seen on the iPad version of the app last year.
Along with the redesigned look and feel, the Google Search app is now faster than before and includes niceties like automatic full-screen browsing, full-screen image search, search for text within a webpage, swipe gestures, and quick access to other Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Docs.

HTC Publishes Blissfully Frustrating Android 4.0 Update List

Good news if you own an Amaze 4G smartphone from HTC. For those of you who do, HTC just released an update to Android 4.0, the latest and greatest open source mobile operating system from Google more deliciously known as Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Owners of HTC's Thunderbolt and Desire HD smartphones aren't as lucky, having to wait perhaps until August, or longer, receive an ICS upgrade, according to HTC's newly published Android 4.0 roadmap.

Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich update -- DROID 3 and DROID X2 left in the dark

Motorola recently updated its Android release timeline and revealed that certain devices will remain on Android 2.3 rather than receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The handsets in question are both modern and more than capable of running the latest Android operating system, however the vendor claims the latest software won’t “improve” the devices, and that’s why updates will not be released. Both the DROID 3 and DROID X2 will remain on Android 2.3, despite the fact that both handsets run dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors and were released not even a year ago.

T-Mobile subscribers waiting on pins and needles for the day their HTC Sensation 4G or Amaze 4G will get its Android 4.0 update don't have to sit so uncomfortably for much longer: the carrier has just narrowed down the timetables considerably. The first wave of owners will get its Ice Cream Sandwich just desserts on May 16th, when Sensation 4G owners can push Android 4.0.3 to their dual-core 2011 flagships. Amaze 4G users have a looser timeframe of the "coming weeks" to dig in. Either circumstance will see HTC slap on Sense 3.6 like it has with other pre-2012 device updates, so don't expect a full One S-like Sense 4.0 experience. That the LG Optimus 2X is going to get Ice Cream Sandwich eventually is something that we know already. After all, the company itself made the announcement of an upcoming ICS update quite a while ago. However, we didn't have much information as to when the said update was going to be released... until today.
As stated by LG Mobile Singapore on Facebook, the LG Optimus 2X Android 4.0 update will start rolling out in Q3 of this year. In other words, there will be no Ice Cream Sandwich for LG Optimus 2X owners for at least another one and a half to three and a half months. Or at least not for those located in Singapore and the surrounding markets.

The Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung GALAXY Note was moved to this quarter, which almost half gone, so it shouldn't be too much of a wait for those impatient Note owners who want the latest and greatest Android 4.0 on their device.
In fact, that AT&T version of the Note has been recorded on video at CTIA running Ice Cream Sandwich with a whiff of TouchWiz applied over it. Even if you didn't see the firmware version, some other telling signs, like the presence of a quick access to Settings in the drop-down notifiction window suggest Android ICS is onboard.

In documents revealed during the Oracle v. Google trial today, Google mentioned to T-Mobile back in 2006 that it wanted to turn the carrier plan pricing structure on its head by underwriting part of the cost of an unlimited data package. By Google's math, customers would pay $9.99 a month for unlimited data — to subsidize the reduce cost, the company would forgo the commission it earned from T-Mobile for referring Android buyers to its online store. Google figured that its own services — Gmail, search, and so on — would consume about 15MB a month, a figure likely estimated to be far lower in 2006 than it is today.

First ever Google Phone prototype revealed in court

Pictures of the first prototype Google Phone device from 2006 have surfaced, along with the search giant's initial plans for the Android operating system.
Two years before Android was launched commercially, Google approached T-Mobile USA with the prospect of releasing an internet-centric phone with a $9.99 a month (£6) unlimited data plan.
The initial device looks a little bit like a strange BlackBerry Bold, with Google proposing an open source operating system packed with Google apps like Maps, Gmail and Google Talk.
That would eventually, of course, become Android.

It seems that everyone with a Samsung phone or tablet will be getting an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon, with some limits, except for basically the entirety of T-Mobile. Sad as it may seem, Samsung’s big list of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades today appears very much to have been relegated to everyone except for T-Mobile. T-Mobile Samsung devices that otherwise might have been upgradable at the moment include the Exhibit II 4G, Galaxy S Blaze 4G, and the Galaxy S II in white and titanium, each of these being suspiciously absent from the updates list.
