Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has revised its annual net loss forecast to a record ¥780 billion ($10.2 billion) in response to a year that has seen the firm battle two massive natural disasters, as well as a slower economy and the strong yen eroding foreign earned revenue when repatriated to Japan.
The company was forced to halt operations in October at its three Thailand factories making home appliances and other products following the nation’s worst floods in 70 years. The magnitude 9.1 earthquake in Japan last March also disrupted the supply chain and impacted heavily on the firm.
In October, the world largest maker of plasma TV’s, had predicted loses of around ¥420 billion ($5.5 b...

Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasPanasonicLumix DMC-ZS15Lumix DMC-ZS20
Panasonic used the lead-in to the CP+ show to introduce even more Lumix point-and-shoot cameras past what it showed earlier in the month. The 20X, 24-480mm ZS20 as the flagship hopes to cure some of the problems of compact superzooms with a new internal structure and nano surface-coated lens that hope to cut back on lens flares and ghosting. A new GPS system both handles the usual geotagging and can even load map data from a DVD like one would car navigation, filling in much more information for 82 countries, such as landmarks.

Speech Recognition Coming to Panasonic TVs

Move over, Microsoft Kinect. Panasonic said Tuesday that it will begin building in speech recognition into future televisions and other consumer electronics devices.
In addition, the CE giant also said that it would begin putting the Flixster application on Panasonic's Viera Connect devices including HDTVs and Blu-ray players, allowing users to tap into their UltraViolet content.
Panasonic said that it had licensed a large-vocabulary speech library from Novauris, which co-developed the NovaLite speech recognition software product for use with Panasonic, and to license to other TV and CE makers who wish to build in speech recognition. NovaLite will be available this quarter, Novauris said.

Like UnlikeFiled in: MonitorsPanasonic
The world's smallest and thinnest 4K x 2K monitor? According to Panasonic, you're looking at it. Unfortunately the company conveniently also left out its actual size, but what looks to our eyes like a 15 or 17-inch display that's also only 3.5mm thin? Alright, we'll bite. For those that can do math, that's an array of 8 million pixels and vibrant from all angles thanks to IPS-Pro technology. That's great Panasonic, but put it in a tablet or a laptop and we'll show you the greenbacks.
