The Droid Eris is a device I absolutely love, and minus the occasional issue with lag, it's a phone I would carry on a regular basis. It's perfect for the person who wants the Android experience, but doesn't want to spring $200 for the Motorola DROID. Despite a small shortcoming in the battery life department, Sense UI, a 5.0-megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a reasonable price point make it a device worth checking out.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Software-wise you'll get all the usual apps, with Verizon only choosing to install its Visual Voicemail service on the phone. Like the Motorola Droid, this is a clean handset. Otherwise there is very little difference between the HTC Hero released in Europe, the HTC Hero on Sprint and the Verizon version.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

Want a Verizon Droid, but, you know, with less Droid? The HTC Droid Eris is Verizon's slightly watered-down Droid: slimmer, lighter, and less powerful, but still a good smartphone for Verizon Wireless. That said, we recommend the Motorola Droid if you want to make the most of the new Verizon Android world.

Though its performance wasn't completely top-notch and we would prefer a more recent Android OS version, the HTC Droid Eris is a satisfying Android device that offers a nice contrast to the Motorola Droid. And you can't beat the price.
