Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had the $200 smartphone Honor 7x in my pocket. This smartphone’s surprised me – and not only because it’s rather feature-full for its price. This phone’s surprised me because it’s doing what OnePlus said it’d do when they started. This smartphone goes to war with the most excellent (and far more expensive) phones in the world, and it does so without any major “me too” tricks.

The Honor 7X offers a very good 18:9 screen, and an impressive amount of storage for a great price. If this smartphone dropped to under £200 (which it may well do), then it would represent incredible value for money. Sure, it’s not waterproof, but at this price point, it’d be hard to find a phone that is. (The Moto X4 is £349 and waterproof). It would be nice if one of the cameras featured OIS, but again, at this price, it’s difficult to find a smartphone that has OIS, except for the HTC U Play. The camera performance is reasonable, but nothing particularly special, with some weaknesses found in video quality, and low-light performance.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

The Honor 7X is shaping up like an easy phone to recommend. $200 gets you a solid, good-looking phone, with a tall, 18:9 screen and peppy performance. EMUI 5.1 feels rather tired and a bit cartoonish, but the functionality and performance within give the user much customization and plenty of speed in day-to-day tasks. As for the camera, it does seem promising, but we'll have to test it further before we give it our final verdict.
