This may be the last of the MG Pixmas for the next year or so, at which time we’ll probably see a similar Pixma with a few feature updates—hanging in there, still printing brilliant photos like a champ. As we’ve said about its siblings, this is fundamentally a great photo printer, but don’t be lulled into thinking that it will work well as a document printer, too. Or at least, it will, so long as you don’t print too many documents. At some point, the more you print (and your budget tolerance for ink), the closer you get to the tipping point where a business-oriented printer is a much more economical choice. In truth, the Pixma MG5620 makes for a great second printer, for those times when you want to zip off a photo or two. (You'd leave your document printing to a laser or another, business-centric printer.) If you have the space for two printers, that's the MG5620's best role, especially as it costs just $99.99 MSRP, or less if you shop around. Indeed, with just some basic Googling, we found the Pixma MG5620 discounted online by as much as $20, coming in around $80 to $90, making it an even better value. But that doesn’t change our admonition about this being an inefficient document printer. Keep that in mind, keep your expectations (and that copier paper) in check, and the Pixma MG5620 should serve you as a fine near-dedicated photo printer.
