Sony PlayStation 3 Pro Reviews

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Clearly, for serious gamers the PS4 is the way to go. It will get all the new titles, specially designed for its superb specification. But the PS3 is an option for more casual games fans. And it makes a better media player, costing far less. Who knew?

A terrific games console, but you'd be mad to pay this much for it unless you're also in the market for a decent Blu-ray player.

Still a capable machine, but some cheaper dedicated players offer superior performance

...it's wholly feasible that this will be the true player's sole console companion of choice.

AVForums‘s review Edit

It's an unusually powerful piece of AV hardware hiding in a plastic shell, made affordable by the financial differences between the gaming and AV industries. And, moreso than ever now thanks to its slim revision, it's a perfectly good Blu-ray Disc player as far as the majority of film titles are concerned.

And that's one of the best things about the PS3 - it supports open standards and so is compatible with the same kind of hardware as your PC.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

There may well be some top class games in the future too, but at launch the PS3 lacks anything like an exclusive 'killer app' to sell the system to hardened gamers. But concentrating on the PS3 as purely a home cinema product, it's an unmistakeably excellent buy.

Even though the 80GB PS3 is slightly more expensive than the Xbox 360 Elite, it's good value and the extra cash is absolutely justifiable. The PS3 is a brilliant, brilliant games console that will only get better over time.

The PlayStation 3 returns, this time with more capacity than ever. Over all, the PS3 Slim 250B is a phenomenal piece of kit. It's amazing that something so small can do so much.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

As a games console and media device, the PS3 is an unbelievably powerful contraption. It's an unrivalled living room media machine, and a powerful games console. We loved the PS3 before the PS3 Slim came out, and we still love it. The Blu-ray drive is great as ever, but what we really love is the ability to stream almost any media file format from your PC or memory stick.

The PS3 Slim makes a number of changes over its forebear, making this the best PlayStation to date. Being more compact and quieter makes it more appealing as a home media hub, reinforcing the solid performance that it delivers.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Even though PS2 backward compatibility has been dropped from this version, the 80GB PS3 is still a superb Blu-ray player and high-definition game console.

With a smaller design, more energy-efficient operation, lower price tag, and built-in Blu-ray and multimedia capabilities, the PS3 Slim delivers a compelling package for an affordable price.

Despite the tummy tuck, the PlayStation 3 remains the capable, muscular box it's always been.

I’ve happily owned a PS3 since January 2007, and I consider it to be one of the best A/V products I’ve ever owned. The slimmer version of the PS3 takes something great and makes it better. It’s ultra-quiet, it can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and it doesn’t look half bad, either. My only complaint is its lack of native IR support, but nothing’s perfect. Highly recommended.
