The Verizon Motorola XOOM was the very first tablet to get Android 3 Honeycomb. Sadly, that is still what runs on the device. However, rumor has it that an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the XOOM is right around the corner.

According to Droid-Life, the new Ice Cream Sandwich update is rolling out right now to select owners over-the-air, with the new code bringing quicker screen rotation, a new setting to "immediately lock the screen," improvements on the camera and a few other minor advancements.

Motorola doing soak test for the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi; update is coming
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
If you have a Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi, Motorola would like you to participate in a soak test. This beta test would allow you to check out the next software update before everyone else, just to make sure that everything is running fine after the software is installed. Because the tablet already received the Ice Cream Sandwich update this past January, we could be looking at Android 4.04 or Android 4.05. Don't expect more than just a few bug fixes and some enhancements here and there.
Motorola has sent out an email to those it is asking to join. You do have to be a member of the Motorola Feedback Network to receive these requests. And your reward is just that feeling that you did something good fo...

Motorola XOOM 32GB Wi-Fi is on the cheap for today only at $299
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Last time we heard about the Motorola XOOM, it wasn’t necessarily good news as Motorola was trying to track down improperly refurbished units that were eventually sold by Woot.com containing personal information from previous owners. Well, if you can somehow overcome that fear, you might take fancy in the fact that it’s selling for a mere $304.98 with shipping included.
Specifically, daily sales web site 1saleaday.com is offering the once beloved and first Honeycomb flavored tablet at the super low price point, but it’s worth mentioning that it’s a factory-refurbished unit. Yeah, we know what you’re thinking, especially after hearing about the fiasco from not too long ago. Nevertheless, it’s...

Motorola XOOM tablets reportedly getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMotorolaGoogleXOOMAndroid 4.0
Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend." Let us know if you have seen your ICS update.

Secret Motorola XOOM project hints at Android 4.0 update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMotorolaGoogleXOOMAndroid 4.0
Motorola recently posted a message in its XOOM owners forums alerting customers that the company is working on a confidential project for the XOOM. Any owner of the Wi-Fi-only “Google Experience Device” version of the XOOM can choose to participate. What remains unknown, however, is what the “confidential project” exactly is. We doubt Motorola would spend too much time adding new features or making too many tweaks to the tablet now that a new model has launched, so we think it’s more likely that the company is working on a test version of Ice Cream Sandwich. Motorola confirmed that in October that it plans to issue an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the XOOM, RAZR and DROID BIONIC. ...

Motorola Xoom receives early Android 4.0.3 build as Google adds source code to AOSP
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMotorolaGoogleXOOMAndroid 4.0
Since Android 4.0.3 is the "base version" for Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has added the source code for it to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). The build supports two devices — we've already seen the update roll out for the Nexus S, but the other is a device that was also launched in direct partnership with Google: the Motorola Xoom (Wi-Fi). True to form, the enterprising hackers at XDA-Developers have already compiled it into a bootable ROM for the Motorola Xoom.
The build is certainly not for the faint of heart: the camera doesn't work and there are likely plenty of other bugs, and as an AOSP-build it also doesn't include Google Apps. All that might be the bad news, but the good news ...

European Xoom 3Gs receiving Android 3.2
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMotorolaGoogleXOOMAndroid 3.2
Last month, European Wi-Fi Xooms received the latest version of Honeycomb, and now it's coming to its more mobile 3G-bearing sibling. The update includes a new apps scaling feature so that apps designed for the smaller screen display better on larger devices, along with support for SD card expansion. According to forum posts by a Motorola support representative, the update is rolling out now to Austria, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany (both retail and T-Mobile versions), Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. Confusingly, the forum posts direct users towards the My Xoom support pages for more information, but nothing r...

Motorola promises Android 4.0 ICS upgrades for DROID RAZR, DROID BIONIC, XOOM (again)
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsTabletsMotorolaGoogleXOOMDROID BIONICAndroid 4.0RAZR
Motorola has posted a rather lengthy explanation of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade process to its corporate blog, where it details the four major steps that need to occur before a software update is made available to users. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide any extra information as to exactly when the Android 4.0 upgrade for existing devices will be released or when it plans to launch new devices with Android 4.0 already on them. It did reiterate its previous commitment to bring the new software to the DROID RAZR, DROID BIONIC, and XOOM tablet, but it has yet to provide an exact timeframe.

Motorola Xoom update brings pay-as-you-go 4G LTE
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
The Motorola Xoom on Verizon should be receiving a minor update which will be bringing a pay-as-you-go option for 4G LTE data.
According to CNET, the HLK75F update will give you a month-to-month option for 4G LTE data and I think this makes the Xoom much more appealing. While it’s a big old and still larger than the competition, having 4G LTE to use without having to sign a long-term contract is really cool. I could see multiple scenarios where I’d want mobile data on my tablet on a pay-as-you-go basis and this is how it works on rival Apple’s iPad.

Motorola has shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Motorola shipped only 100,000 Xoom tablets in the third quarter of the year. The sad number comes from Motorola Mobility’s third quarter results and is revealing about the fate of Android tablets. It should also be noted that the company hasn’t sold 100,000 in the last trimester, the number is for shipments only.
And when compared with Apple’s iPad? The number is almost discouraging - the iPad recorded sales of 11 million in the third quarter of the year.
On the positive note, though, we recently heard that the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet by Motorola is expected to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but there’s no set timeline. The tablet started receiving LTE under an upgrade pro...

Motorola shipped only 100,000 XOOM tablets in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Motorola Mobility reported its Q3 earnings report today and revealed a gloomy future for its Motorola XOOM tablet. The company had shipped only 100,000 units of the tablet in this last quarter, which is far less than the 440,000 units shipped in the quarter before as well as the 250,000 units shipped in the quarter of the tablet’s launch. It must also be noted that this is the number shipped and not necessarily the number actually sold.
In contrast, Apple’s iPad shipped 11.1 million units during the same period, far ahead of all Android tablet competitors. Despite this, Motorola is expected to announce a successor to the XOOM sometime soon and has recently begun 4G LTE upgrades for the curre...

Motorola XOOM to get ICS, but no definite timeline for update
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
It's one of the more annoying aspects of the Android ecosystem, but one we must live with. Even if a device is less than a year old, we don't feel comfortable that it will get the newest update unless the manufacturer explicitly says so. Recently, HTC has confirmed that it will bring ICS to "as many" devices as possible, but that isn't much solace. On the other hand, Motorola has confirmed the update will come to the Bionic and RAZR at the very least. Now, it's looking more likely the XOOM will get the update, but we can't say when.
A source from the Motorola support message boards, which Engadget claims is a very reliable source, has confirmed that the Motorola XOOM will be getting the ICS...

Motorola Xoom Family Edition pops up at retail sporting kid-friendly software
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Now that Motorola's Xoom is ready to rock out on 4G LTE connections, the only thing missing from the original 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet is a nice suite of edutainment software... wait, what? Whether or not that's what you asked for, it appears to be what Motorola's giving you judging by this "Family Edition" branded Xoom that just showed up at a big box electronics store. While there's still no hint of the subwoofer-equipped Xoom 2 Media Edition that's been rumored, this model is differentiated by the addition of a Kid Mode with $40 of software for kids from Zoodles (trailer after the break) packed-in. We don't have a release date or official pricing yet, but we'd expect to see the MZ505 on...
