Apple iPhone 4 Verizon Pro Reviews

hardwaresecrets‘s review Edit

With the best industrial design of any smartphone, an amazing Retina display, a great camera, and useful updates to the operating system, the iPhone 4 is working hard to stay on top of the fray. Yet, others are moving ahead with fresher operating systems, dual processors, and 4G and NFR support. Although iOS is usable, the Android and Windows 7 Phone operating systems have moved ahead with the use of widgets, improved notifications, and customization options.

Overall the iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless offers up a top-notch experience. In general, though, I'll probably end up sticking with my AT&T iPhone 4 because I like having the option to roam globally during trips to Europe. While Verizon's network in New York City seemed to offer more reliable connections, AT&T's data performance was generally faster during my tests. The personal hotspot feature was a feather in its cap for a short while, but that didn't last long. If you're on Verizon and want an iPhone, though, this should suit you just fine.

After four years of waiting and relentless rumors, the Verizon iPhone doesn't fully live up to its hype. It is a very nice device that offers a consistent experience with very few hiccups and is great for smartphone newcomers and veterans alike. But it hit the shelves too late to sweep CDMA users off of their feet. I predict this iPhone 4 will face a short shelf life among countless, more powerful Android devices and the next generation iPhone.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

So the long-awaited Verizon iPhone 4 is finally here. It's functionally the same as the GSM/UMTS iPhone 4 on AT&T, except significantly less prone to unintended signal attenuation from being held thanks to receive diversity through two cellular antennas. Battery life is the same or better than the AT&T iPhone 4, GPS is slightly more precise, Verizon lets you turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot if you pay the fare, and SMS concatenation even works on Verizon's network. There's really nothing to complain about at all or point out as being inordinate about the CDMA iPhone - it's simply an iPhone 4 on Verizon's network.

The elegant functionality of the iPhone comes to Verizon's network, and our testing points to better performance. You'll have to make a few trade-offs from the AT&T version for the excellent call and data quality, however.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Verizon iPhone 4 has much in common with its AT&T counterpart, but varying features and different performance give it enough room to stand apart. It won't vastly change your iPhone experience, but we welcome the consumer choice that it brings.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If you can overlook those shortcomings and see the benefits of the Verizon network, then this handset might be ripe for the taking – especially when it contends against the other juggernauts in the market. For $199.99 on-contract, you’re getting a beautifully crafted device that embodies everything that you imagine a premium device to be. In addition, it’s very well rounded in all aspects and makes for a fantastic multimedia companion. Truth be told, but the Verizon iPhone 4 is still a relevant handset to reckon with seeing that it envelops all the great things we expect to see from a high-end device – not to mention that reliable network behind it.

Macworld‘s review Edit

For all but the most discriminating user, the new Verizon version of the iPhone 4 is the same iPhone 4 we’ve known for the past seven months. If you’re thinking of buying an iPhone and are unsure about which carrier to choose, you’d be well advised to talk to friends about coverage and dead spots near you, and to compare rate plans. If Verizon’s network serves you better than AT&T’s, you can finally make the move (though you may have to pay a fee to get out of your contract—that’s something would-be AT&T switchers should check before committing to Verizon).

SlashGear‘s review Edit

Attempting to divine Apple’s plans for their true next-gen iPhone is, as speculation over the past four or more years has shown, invariably an exercise in confusion and frustration. What I do know is that, with frequent iOS software upgrades and the capacious App Store, there’s a legitimate effort to bring older models as up to date and stretch as much functionality out of them as possible. Whether that’s future-proof enough will depend on individual subscribers, but it’s clear that the CDMA iPhone addresses an issue very much of the present. Out in the real world, away from the rumors and speculation, the Verizon iPhone 4 performed as you’d want it to: consistent network service to match the consistent software experience.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

It was worth the wait. The iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless delivers the reliable data and voice coverage AT&T has failed to provide, making this device a dependable partner for work and play. Everything we love about Apple's smart phone is enhanced because you don't have to wait to get stuff done or wonder if your call will drop. In cities such as New York you can shop for and download apps, surf the web, start streaming YouTube videos, and a lot more much faster.
