How do you understand it will be Cr-48? From what I've read it will be a new notebook...

Yeah, Samsung and Acer are the manufacturers of the newest Chromebooks as they are now called. The devices look pretty good and I think the word netbook finally got it's perfect meaning.

Hardware specs are nothing fancy, dual-core Atoms, Wi-Fi, HD Webcam + mic, HDMI connector and 2 USB ports, as well as an impressive 6+ hours of usage. Something similar to the first Google notebook Cr-48 is the oversized trackpad and the fullsize chrome keyboard.

I guess the rumors are wrong as the first chromebooks are priced between $400 and $500 which is too expensive for a netbook. You can get a windows based netbook with the same (or better) specs for the same money and still install a chrome OS if you wish.

Well, you can definitely buy a windows 7 netbook, and get the regular madness that comes pre-installed. Of course the coin has two sides, and Windows OS has it's advantages over the Chrome OS, but I'm pretty sure the Chromebooks will be something worth checking out, just because it's a whole package. A whole package for getting easily on-line at faster than most netbooks speed, with multi-layer security at the core levels, thus no need for anti-virus, and full-time automatic back-ups. For a regular guys that spend a lot on the internet, it will be great, especially having in mind the 6+ hours battery. To me, it sounds like 100 times better than any win7 notebook. :)

except the part that a chrome netbook is useless without an internet connection :). You are better off with Jolicloud OS than Chrome OS IMO.

Actually that is not the way you think :) Read the discussion about the new Chromebooks somewhere in this site :)

There is a news linked explaining about that rumour, but there is nothing official yet:

I believe that for that price(if it is real) it is going to be one very wanted product :)
