What macro lenses for food photography?

I recently bought Canon EOS 1000D (happy) and now I am looking for macro lens kit for photographing close objects such as food?

Level 7 I think 50mm f 1.8 lens will be enough for start. Next step is playing with light and if you find yourself constrained by the 50mm then buy one of canon's macro lens to take it to the next level :)

Level 5 Considering you are on a budget (looking at the camera you got) I'd get something like mine Sigma DC 17-70. Not the best, but good for the money.

Level 1 I agree that a 50mm f 1.8 is a good choice. I have seen many good deals on really nice lenses on Craigslist. Just know what you are going to buy, do your homework before you see the product.
