Improving sound quality for my ZTE N860 cell phone

Well any player with good EQ should theoretically improve the sound. Check out the app market for the top audio players. I'd definitely try out the free ones first. A decent pair of headphones may also improve the experience.

You can improve the sound quality with software but if the phone`s speaker or headphones you`re using suck there won`t be anything you can do about it...

It depends on what are you trying to improve. If it is the speaker, you can try some EQ settings. Pretty much you are stuck with what you have and improvements will be minor.
